Police discover cannabis factory at Blackpool property

A CANNABIS factory was uncovered by police in a Blackpool property last night (Thursday 13 January).

Police officers made the discovery at the semi-detached house on Central Drive just after 9pm following intelligence which suggested that drug related activity was taking place.

Around 200 plants were discovered in the property, spread out over the attic, a bedroom and an upstairs bathroom. Lighting and cultivation equipment was also found in the property.

Det Sgt George Binns from Blackpool CID said: “This was a substantial find which demonstrates our efforts to reduce drug related activity in Blackpool.

“Drugs have a negative impact on our communities and create a cycle for more crime.

“We will continue to take robust action against those who are thought to be involved in drugs and drug dealing.

“We always welcome information from the public in our efforts to tackle this type of crime and I urge residents to pass any suspicions about drugs on to the police.”

A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of production of a class B drug and abstracting electricity and remains in custody where he is being questioned by detectives.

Anyone with information about drug related activity should contact the police on 0845 1 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
